20150303降伏無明‧大愛無私 Giving with Selfless Love
See how the wildfires are raging out of control. Isn't the field of our mind also the same? When we lack the water of Dharma, the fire of ignorance will rage in our mind. so, we must keep our mind calm and peaceful. Only then can we see things clearly, gain a better understanding of them, and see the truth in everything .
We heard Mr. Duh, our Tzu Chi volunteer in Kaohsiung, recount the story of the land he donated to Tzu Chi to build a Jing Si Hall He said that Tzu Chi never uses its land to make profits, but to benefit people in society only. By building a Jing Si Hall, we hope to share wholesome teachings with people to purify their minds. Mr. Duh and his wife are both very dedicated Tzu Chi volunteers and very diligent in carrying out Tzu Chi's Four Missions. They're truly the role models of other Tzu Chi volunteers.
That's why in Kaohsiung, many volunteers have followed their example and diligently give of themselves with love. Before the Jing Si Hall in Kaohsiung could be built, our volunteers had followed every rule and regulation and waited for years before the government approved the project. See how the Jing Si Hall has benefited the locals. Such is the result of love. Even people who are not Tzu Chi volunteers can find peace of mind when coming to our Jing Si Hall as it is indeed filled with much love.
This is truly very touching. At our Jing Si Halls, our volunteers have held many activities and classes for people to attend and further inspired love in them. So, school is not the only place for people to learn. Through interacting with others, we can also learn from one another and become one another's wholesome friends who help and inspire one another. Only then can we sow blessings for the world and help people to become rich .
By rich, I don't mean rich in material wealth, but in wisdom and love. We see that in Hualien, Tzu Chi volunteers have been caring for the indigenous people for years. Because much of the farmland there is not in use, our volunteers encouraged the locals to grow rice as a way to help support their livelihood. Our volunteers told farmers not to use pesticide so the rice they grow would be safer for people to eat. After their rice was harvested, our volunteers bought the rice from them and then donated it to a local special school.
This is very meaningful. When I was growing the rice, I didn't know it'd be used to help the needy. It's great and very meaningful Our school does not have enough food budget, so we have to collect donations. One time, Tzu Chi volunteers told me that they could donate material supplies to us. And that's what they did I'd like to thank Tzu Chi Foundation, Master Cheng Yen, as well as all of the Tzu Chi Volunteers for bringing us so much love and care.
Our volunteers give this school around three tons of rice every year. For the 80 students who live on campus, they not only provide them with daily necessities, but also often go to interact with them. Through our volunteers' efforts, we hope that these children can have more contacts with people and be more responsive to their surroundings. For those who have restricted mobility, we hope that they can slowly learn to do simple tasks for themselves.
This is how Tzu Chi volunteers give with love. Look at how our volunteers have helped a young man in Sanchong, New Taipei City. This young man is in his twenties He lives with his parents, but his father is physically and mentally challenged. Because of his cerebral palsy, this young man stayed at home most of the time and seldom talked to others, When our volunteers first went to care for the family in 2011, he would drool while talking and could not articulate clearly.
Since then, our volunteers have been providing care to the family and encouraging the young man to talk more so he could learn to communicate with others. With our volunteers' care and support, he's gradually understood how hard his mother has worked for the family. Seeing the calluses on his mother's hands, his heart ached. Now, before his mother returns home, he'll help with house chores and prepare meals for his parents.
Seeing how much he has improved, our volunteers felt that it was time for him to go out and learn a skill to support himself. So, they first took him to our recycling station to sort recyclables together with our volunteers. After he'd learned how to interact and get along with others, our volunteers then encouraged him to learn a skill so he can make a living in the future. So, since last December, he's been attending vocational training programs at the First Social Welfare Foundation in Sanchong.
The tuition fee is about US$160 a month, but our volunteers readily pay for him so he can learn a skill soon His mother will eventually get old and leave him someday. So, he really needs to learn to support himself. See how our Tzu Cheng members lvoingly care for him like a father and patiently prepare him for our society nowadays. Now, he not only keeps a pure heart, but has also learned to take care of his parents and is learning a skill.
Seeing how our volunteers give with love, my heart is filled with warmth. This is what our society is like. The people of Taiwan truly have boundless love and kindness. Taiwan is really full of love.
