20150331調心調身獲重生 Bringing Harmony to Society by Helping One Another with Love
To enjoy peace and safety, everyone needs to live with sincerity and vigilant care. Be it natural or manmade disasters, spiritual disasters that wreck havoc in our minds, or the suffering we experience in life, all this is caused by the karma every one of us has created individually or collectively. And when karmic retributions come to bear, we suffer. So, when our minds are in disharmony, what we do will bring about an unwholesome karmic force.
Because of the unwholesome karma we create, an intangible karmic force is brought about to inflict tangible disasters upon us. That's why we suffer collectively. So, only when our minds are pure and harmonious and we pave a smooth path by giving with love can there be no disasters in the world. There is no other way around it. A few days ago, a fire broke out at a recycling factory in
Tainan. As firefighters were busy putting out the fire, Tzu Chi volunteers also quickly mobilized to care for the firefighters and prepare hot meals for them.
Such is the love of humanity. Seeing the fire disaster when water is much needed, we should be reminded to cherish water all the more in our daily living. There was another fire that broke out at an auto repair shop in Yunlin. Coincidentally, the truck of one of our volunteers was being repaired there. So, her truck has been affected by the fire. But she told the shop owner: "Don't worry about my truck" "I'm glad you're safe" See how generous and understanding she is. She didn't care about her truck or ask the owner to compensate her loss, but even comforted the shop owner.
This is how we can help to bring harmony to society. We must love one another. That's why we care for people in need in every corner of society. Take for example a family in Keelung whose utilities were cut off as they couldn't pay the bills. The parents also couldn't pay for their children's tuition fees. Seeing how poor the family was, Tzu Chi volunteers began to help them. Their children are very studious and one is already in college. For the sake of the family, we wish the children a promising future.
In Kaohsiung, after the gas explosions last year, Tzu Chi volunteers visited people from door to door to being them care. Because of that, they came across a family where a young man suffered from
end-stage oral cancer. He hung in there for a long time way over his doctor had expected. He wrote that he couldn't leave because he hadn't fulfilled his duty as a son.
Tzu Chi volunteers cared for him regularly. They shared many of life's truths with him as he was very disrespectful to his parents, brother, and sister-in-law. Eventually, he knelt before them to repent. Inspired by Tzu Chi volunteers , this young man also saved up coins every day to help the needy He had changed a lot and gained peace of mind He even encouraged his parents to recycle. Later, he passed away in peace His parents said they'll continue to do good and recycle as that's what their son wanted for them.
Such is the working of karmic affinities. When the man was healthy, he didn't have the opportunity to come across Tzu Chi. On his deathbed, Tzu Chi volunteers appeared and began to care for and support him for several months. So, he gradually changed and even repented to his parents. It is a very precious experience for him that he could repent and even do good in time. We also see a 21-year-old man in Penang, Malaysia who suffers from ankylosing spondylitis and cannot perform routine activities in his daily living. So, he came to our hospital in Hualien where our medical team mindfully treated him and conducted operations on him.
He's now been reborn. After two joint replacement surgeries, he can walk now. He'd been practicing walking and recovering very well. He was discharged yesterday, which happened to be his birthday. See how the medical team gathered around to wish him a happy birthday and celebrate his rebirth. Seeing that, I'm really very grateful. This reminds me of the hardship we went through when building the hospital. Back then, so many people had given with love and worked very hard to solicit donations from people.
After the hospital was built in Hualien, see how many people in need from other countries have come to receive treatments and returned home healthy. Take Yung nXiaodong from China for example who suffers from ankylosing spondylitis. After months of treatment, he was able to stand tall and went home. There was also Chen Tuanzhi who is also from China and had deformed feet. After seven operations at our hospital in Hualien, she was able to stand on her own two feet.
Right now, there is a pair of conjoined twins from the Philippines recovering from the separation surgery conducted at our hospital in Hualien. All this is possible thanks to the love of our medical team and our volunteers from the Philippines who have been here caring for them for months. There are truly many touching stories like this.
