20150826發心行願不止息 Spreading the Dharma to Inspire Love in More People

Every day, there are the same events repeating around the world, such as natural disasters caused by the imbalance of Nature’s Four Elements and manmade disasters brought about by the disharmony in people’s minds. So, every day, we can witness the truths of impermanence, sufferings, and emptiness of life. For example, a few days ago, a series of explosions occurred at a warehouse at the Port of Tianjin, China.

Due to the incident, workers from other provinces of China suddenly lost their jobs and had no money to return home. So, Tzu Chi volunteers from Beijing and Tianjin immediately came together to bring them aid. Our volunteers are not related to these people, but they embraced them in their arms and gave them comfort and love. In this world, there are many heartwarming stories like this.

Although life is filled with impermanence, there are also people with love who will reach out to those affected. So, we must work harder to inspire more people to give with love. Impermanence is undefeatable. But if we can encourage and inspire everyone to give of their love, the result will be unimaginable.

As long as there are more and more people giving with love our world will gradually change for the better as people won’t have so many desires anymore which will only lead to many disasters. With fewer desires, disasters will also decrease. So, it is very important that we learn the Dharma and share it with more people.

We see the informal settlements in Johannesburg, South Africa where poverty, violence, etc. are common. Johannesburg, Serena, who is our Tzu Chi volunteer. She is very brave. Feeling for the people in the settlements, she was determined to do what she could to help better their lives. When she first went there to give out aid, she’d ask the police to escort her.

As she went time and again more and more police officers who went with her were moved by what she did for the settlements.

Serena has been helping the settlements for over ten years now. She once thought of giving up, but she didn’t have the heart to do it. Last month, our Zulu volunteers in Durban went to Johannesburg to share their experience of dong Tzu Chi’s work with the local volunteers in the settlements. They also shared with them about the benefits of eating vegetarian. See how they shared what they’ve learned with others.

Inspired by the Dharma they’ve heard, they have gained insight into true principles and are able to explain them with stories or events so it’s easier for people to understand and take in the truths they share. Apart from Johannesburg, our volunteers in Durban also go to other African countries to serve.

Along with other Tzu chi volunteers in Africa, they’ve gone to, many African countries to give out aid to needy and inspire the locals to serve as our volunteers.  There’s a Taiwanese businesswoman in Whenever they go to a new country for the first time, they’ll work very hard to pass on Tzu Chi’s spirit and the Dharma to the locals. They’ve taken in the Dharma, so they’ve gained boundless wisdom.

As their true nature has been awakened, they’ve given rise to wisdom as vast as the sea. And wherever they go, they’ll be able to share life’s truths and Tzu Chi with others and inspire them to give. Seeing that, I’m very moved. I’m truly very grateful to them. Our world is really full of love. AS Tzu Chi volunteers serve around the world, they’ve seen much suffering. But they work to relieve suffering with the spirit of truth, goodness, and beauty.

They reach out to the suffering with a genuine heart of goodness, so their lives are very beautiful. Look at our volunteer, Mei-juan, in Lesotho. She is a woman, but see how she serves the locals with the heart of a Buddha and a loving mother. Our volunteer, Serena in Johannesburg is also the same. She is also a woman, but with a loving heart, she’s determined to help locals. See how she goes to the dangerous settlements to serve.

She was worried about her safety, so she asked the police to go with her. Why did she do that? It’s because she didn’t want to give up on the people in the settlements and wanted to continue bringing them aid with love. She’s been serving there for over ten years. See how she persists on the Bodhisattva Path with diligence.

For such a long time, she has been tirelessly giving of herself to serve the people in the settlements and does so with a respectful heart. Feeling her love and respect, those in the settlements have come to realize that instead of looking down on them, these Taiwanese volunteers serve them with genuine, sincere love. Some residents in the settlements who serve as our volunteers will also help to explain Tzu Chi’s work to the residents.

There are truly too many beautiful stories like this to share. Having seen the truths of impermanence, suffering, and emptiness of life, do we still need to cling to anything? We should make good use of our lives and seize time to give as giving brings as the greatest happiness and fills us with much spiritual joy.
