20171223肩負使命志傳承Shouldering the Mission and Passing on Tzu Chi’s Spirit
It’s already winter, but we can still see typhoons forming. They caused damages in the Philippines. A week ago, a typhoon brought floods to the central Philippines. Yesterday, another mild typhoon made landfall in the southern Philippines.
This typhoon, Tembin, though mild, brought torrential rains. Seeing this, I’m concerned and worried about it.
The climate nowadays is very unstable and extreme. The wildfires in California of the US are still burning. These wildfires are merciless and a horrific sight. Flooding and fires have both created destructive and frightful disasters in different countries.
On the other hand, we see heartwarming stories in this world. In South Africa, we see businesspeople from Taiwan who have brought love to the locals. For over 20 years, they have lived there, using the local resources and labor.
So, I hope they can give back to the local communities. In South Africa, they have truly used their power of love to inspire the local people.
They have been caring for they have truly used their power of love to inspire the local people. They have been caring for a number of poor families. When our volunteers learned about students in need of education aid, they provided tuition aid to help these students.
Over the years, they have planted the seeds of love locally. Many students who received the aid have grown. Some of them have become Tzu Chings and want to reciprocate.
They are like big trees which have gone from seedlings to saplings, and then become full-grown. Many of these Tzu Chings are certified Tzu Chi volunteers. This is the result of volunteers’ love and efforts. As time passes by, we can see its results.
These Taiwanese businesspeople try to provide their children opportunities of helping the poor so that they can count their blessings. Some of their children have personally experienced hardship, so they can empathize with people in suffering and are willing to give of themselves.
They interacted with the local young people with love. They see these young people grow up. We have a group of local young volunteers who accompany senior Tzu Chi volunteer to do Tzu Chi’s work. They have made the aspiration to take up the mission and inspire others to join.
Among these young people is Kgabo; her is fine example. He received tuition aid from Tzu Chi and felt the volunteer’s power of love. Such seeds of love have been planted deeply within him.
Kagbo has self-respect and is self-reliant. He always studied diligently, including when enrolled in an open distance learning program. He is really a responsible young man. We see him grow up and now he has a good career.
He has never left Tzu Chi and always makes time to volunteer. Kagbo has a sunny personality and is kind to people. That’s why a young lawyer saw potential in Kaobo and recruited him to work in his law firm recruited him to work in his law firm.
He met Kagbo at a Tzu Chi event. He saw this young man and found him to be kind and gentle. He noticed that Kagbo has good social skills and communicates well. Kagbo has good character and people like him. That’s why Kagbo was asked to work for him.
Even though Kagbo is now working, he still volunteers with Tzu Chi. He always joins Tzu Ching activities which help him nurture a compassionate heart. He always devotes himself to serving people, whether they are disabled, elderly, or small children. The Tzu Ching in South Aftica are very happy and broad-minded.
Young people need to be in an environment that constantly reminds them of people’s suffering. I hope that these young people keep on giving of themselves, gaining insights, and sharing their experiences with others.
As the Tzu Ching song goes, Tzu Chings shoulder the mission of the Buddha, follow the steps of Tzu Chi volunteers, and pass on Tzu Chi’s spirit. That’s right. To shoulder the mission of the Buddha and follow the steps of Tzu Chi volunteers, it takes steady steps to serve people and learn more about Tzu Chi. Each step they take must be firm.
