20180115慈航同願拔諸苦 Serving with the Goal of Saving Patients’ Life
Oral Surgeon of Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital Hsu Bo Chih, “We used 3D computed tomography to construct the image of his fractured facial bones. In order to avoid leaving scars on his face, we went in from his scalp and fixed the fractures on his frontal bone.”
Patient family Ms. Yeh, “It was such a bad fall that his whole face was unrecognizable. Right now, other than a minor scar in this area, I think his face looks normal now.”
Patient Mr. Tseng, “The doctor is really good. I’m amazed my hair still grows.”
The patient of this case fell off from the third floor of a building and suffered from severe facial fractures. The medical team repaired the fractures with more than 100 screws and nails.
There is barely any scar on his face now. How advanced today’s medical technology is! No matter how advanced medical technology is, doctors’ care and love for patients is the most important.
The medical team put all the efforts together in caring and respecting him with love. When he stood before me to receive a red envelope, I took a close look at his face and found no scars. I was really touched by the results.
In the afternoon, we saw a lovely young lady in her twenties. She also fell accidentally from a high place. We thought she only needed treatment from the departments of general surgery and orthopedics.
However, she suffers from diabetes and ended up needing specialists from 18 departments to treat her. Her condition was quite rare. The medical team tried hard to find the cause of her illness, and how to treat her illness accordingly. She was in critical condition. Fortunately, she was saved.

Life is so precious. So many people safeguarded her life with love. I am truly grateful for their selfless giving and sincere devotion. The goal of our medical mission is safeguarding people’s lives and health with love. Such is the goal of our medical mission.
Every time I come to our Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital, I always feel very touched. I am grateful to the superintendent, assistant superintendents and department directors for leading their departments so wonderfully and successfully.
Our nurses also care for patients with their genuine love. I often hear people praise them. There are so many touching stories about them. There are also many touching stories about all the departments that I cannot tell them all.
In all, it is everyone’s love pooled together that creates Great Love. Indeed, Great Love is boundless. I see the medical mission giving hope to people. Saving lives and safeguarding the health of people are our medical missions, which keeps our mission going.
We see our hospital keeps on improving be it clinical works, research, or training. Our doctors and medical staff work very hard to keep up to date with the latest medical knowledge while helping people in suffering.
They have achieved both. Just like how one walks the Bodhisattva Path by learning the Dharma while helping living beings. In the same way, like cultivators, medical staff need to have forbearance and Great Love for all.
All of the doctors and nurses in our hospital have achieved this. I am truly grateful. In the morning, I walked downstairs and saw many TIMA doctors. They also volunteer with Tzu Chi.
Though they have their own private practices, they spend their free time volunteering with Tzu Chi. Be it in the mountains or remote areas, they give of themselves with love.
They have been doing this for decades. Their power of love is the same as our doctors’, I am truly touched and grateful. I hope that this love can be spread to every corner of the world.
Let us pray for a peaceful world and a harmonious society. Most importantly, people’s heart can be purified.

I am grateful to the superintendent and all the doctors and nurses. Thank you. Indeed, I see you all the medical staff devoting yourselves to medical care with a heart of cultivation and the aspiration of saving patients.
In my eyes, all of you doctors are life-saving bodhisattvas. I respect you all doctors highly. I truly respect you because you have cared for so many people for me.
Those who suffer from injuries or illnesses need you, medical staff of various departments, to give your care and power of love. With every patient you save, I am deeply grateful and touched.
My gratitude is beyond words. Today, I see the superintendent of the Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital brings staff of all departments together to serve with devotion and love.
This is the beauty of harmony and unity. Your working in unity, harmony with mutual and concerted effort has created truth, goodness, and beauty. I am grateful for this.
My gratitude is beyond words. I am really, really grateful to you, and I will always respect and love you. With the Buddha’s heart and bodhisattvas’ aspirations, let’s carry out bodhisattvas’ vows together.
