20190606智慧之道傳大愛Easing Suffering with All-embracing Love
It is truly heartrending to see how a fire that broke out at a migrant center in Bosnia brought even more suffering to those who had fled their homeland. When can they return to their homeland? No one knows.
"Bombers attacked when we were fast asleep. As our homes were all leveled, we had no choice but to flee at once. We were targeted by 40 rockets at the same time."
We see Syrian refugees. Their children are growing up and there are also newborns. Seeing their situation, I feel that they truly are in great suffering.
（志工 Tamara：）「親愛的朋友，大家好！早安，你們是醒著的嗎？」
「醒來了！」
（志工 Tamara：）「謝謝大家給我們機會來這裡，在如此困難的時刻；這冬天，大家一定覺得很冷。」
（難民：）「這是去年你們給的（冬衣），可以看到這個標誌，材質很好，所以我繼續穿著。」
（難民 瑪麗亞：）「當你們傳達愛給大家的時候，大家內心都感受到了，也明白你們所要傳達的是一種安心、安全的感覺。」
Syrian refugees can only go to Europe via Serbia. Sometimes, when European countries refuse to let them in by closing their borders, they can only stay in Serbia. Our volunteers from several European countries take turns to help the refugees there.
"First of all, I'm very grateful to Tzu Chi for giving us more than 200 mattresses. Most of our mattresses were badly damaged."

We see that recently, our volunteers in Europe have gathered in Serbia to distribute summer clothing to the refugees.
（難民：）「我很開心，因為我們所有人都沒有T恤（可換洗），你們給了我們，所以我們所有人都非常開心。」
「你跟我說，你之前有見過我們。」
（巴基斯坦難民 Soba：）「是的，我見過你們三次，我很高興能夠再次見到你們。你們帶給我們衣服，每次來都帶給我們不同的東西，我們真的非常高興。」
Some refugees are newcomers while some have long been stranded there, so our volunteers had got acquainted with some of them years before, but they didn't know the newcomers at all. Despite that, our volunteers gave out summer clothing to all of them. And when winter is approaching, they will also distribute winter clothing there.
They've been unceasingly caring for the refugees and offering them two meals a day. This is how we help the refugees stranded in Serbia. When can Syrian refugees there return to their country? Even if they go back, their homes may have been destroyed because their home country is still being plagued by wars. They truly lead a life of great suffering. What cause their suffering? People's unwholesome thoughts.
Our volunteers also hold Buddha Day ceremonies for the refugees. No matter what their religious faiths are, the ceremonies can bring peace to their hearts and minds. The Buddha, also know as the Awakened One of the Cosmos, cared for the suffering in the world and guided everyone to have a peaceful heart and mind. So, our volunteers hold Buddha Day ceremonies for the refugees. Our volunteers are truly very mindful. I'm deeply touched and very grateful to them.
Seeing that there are so many people suffering in the world, it came to my mind that the Buddha referred to our world as the Saha world where there is much suffering to endure. Coming to this world, we have to be able to endure suffering.
So, when the Buddha began to expound the Dharma, he explained, in the first place, the Four Noble Truths about the existence of suffering, its cause, the cessation of it, and the way to end it. The existence of suffering is the first of the Four Noble Truths. So, after the Buddha became enlightened, he guided people by expounding the existence of suffering in the first place. And as suffering truly exists, we must be able to endure it.
For that, we must turn our consciousness into wisdom. For a period of time, I kept mentioning that we must turn our consciousness into wisdom. It is not enough to acquire knowledge and we shouldn't be shortsighted and only know what is before our eyes. Rather, we must gain insight into all life's truths in this world. So, the Buddha analyzed the Four Noble Truths so we can understand them.
The imbalance of Nature's elements that results in natural disasters around the world as well as manmade disasters all originate from the disharmony in people's hearts and minds, which bring suffering to humanity. To mitigate disasters, we need love. So, may all of us realize that the Bodhisattva Path is a path of wisdom for us to walk upon. To do that, we don't have to be a Buddhist. As long as we uphold correct beliefs rather than live in deluded thoughts and walk towards the right direction, we can all walk on the path.
All religions began with love. Without love as the origin, no religion could thrive and be passed down through history. Buddhism also began with love that is great and all-embracing. We must work to pass on this great love. May we all open up our hears and minds so we can truly embrace all living beings and the entire universe with great love and compassion.
Wherever there is a disaster, with love spread all around, everyone can give and help.
