Japan has been devastated by several typhoons this year. The latest Typhoon Hagibis cause serious damage in Japan. Tzu Chi volunteers there also went to affected areas to do disaster survey. After this survey, they quickly sent blankets to a shelter.
The stadium in Marumori is the storage place where all aids supplies are stored for the area. Yesterday, Tzu Chi’s aid supplies were sent here too. During daytime, the shelter looked empty because people either went to clean up their houses, or went to work or school. So, we decided to return to the shelter later to deliver our blankets to the affectees in person.
When the affectees in the shelter received these Tzu Chi blankets, they will definitely feel the warmth of your care. Thank you very much.
After the blankets arrived, Tzu Chi volunteers continued doing disaster survey. Typhoon Hagibis truly caused great devastation in Japan. So, from the bottom of our hearts, let us pray with the sincere piety for peace and harmony in the world. In Malaysia, floods brought damage too.
Flood water level was waist deep. The lowest was about 2 feet deep.
Torrential rains came to quickly and too heavy for us to take any precautions. The village is flooded all over. We have to take the days off to clean and tidy our home.
This is Jing Si instant rice which is prepared like the instant noodles. No cooking involved. Just pour in hot water and then leave for some time before eating it.
We talked to and made an arrangement with the chairperson of the village committee to use a Mosque as the venue for carrying out Tzu Chi’s aid distribution.
In recent years, Malaysia has been impacted by several flood disasters which caused serious damage. So, Tzu Chi volunteers there also started carrying out flood relief distributions.
Indeed, there are so many disasters happening in the world. Now, Tzu Chi staff is simultaneously working on several relief missions, including those in progress and those being planned. Tzu Chi staff and volunteers go back and forth to different countries to carry out the relief efforts and help people in need. It seems that many disasters are happening around the world, and I hope people there are safe.
Places that are far away from us, despite wanting to help, there is no affinity as They are far away, and we have no volunteers nor manpower there. I heard about the news of a dam that collapsed at a gold mine, and some homes nearby, which belonged to the workers, were damaged.
When I think about it, life has many contradictions. Gold is hidden in enormous mountain, and human are truly brilliant to have ways of detecting the minerals in a mountain; mankind is quite amazing. Furthermore, they find ways to mine the gold, which leads to people fighting over the rights of excavating and mining a mountain. Within this process, many people gave their labor as well as blood and tears, nevertheless, this keeps happening in history.
There are disasters happening in other places. If there are Tzu Chi volunteers there, they will immediately mobilize to help the affectees. But, whatever relief aid they receive, they will not feel the same sense of ease as they felt before the disaster. Their homes, damaged and destroyed; where can they call home?
Having received our cash-aid, yet it is not a big amount, So how much help will that do for them? At the present, relief efforts are ongoing In Malaysia and Japan. This happens in Laos as well. A team of volunteers is about to dispatch to Laos; in the previous trip, they surveyed the disaster area, carried out relief work, and found out the living conditions of the people there.
They came back and thought out the details of how to help. How long should we provide food for the affectees? What kind of goods should we provide? It is all thought in great details, such as the number of recipients, the amount of goods, and how long they would last them. Besides rice, what other types of nutritious foods do they need? These are all the things to consider and plan.
We are holding a distribution in such a short notice. We also need to purchase rice seeds for them. Their rice seeds were washed away by the flood. Therefore, we need to give them rice seeds.
Yesterday, we learned that we can purchase rice seeds in Vietnam, which is nearby. Finally, we found a way to purchase rice seeds from a place that is closer. This is something we are preparing now and will get ready to make a trip for it.
People in Laos live in hardship. In Laos, their medical service is inadequate. When patients are sent to a hospital and there is not enough bed, patients are put on the floor. Their medical facility is basic and damp. We cannot bill to see this. How do we help their medical facility so that we are not worrying about them?
This is something that we are worried about now. How do we help the people there? It’s not easy to get relief goods into Laos. It is a landlocked country. There is no port. Mountain roads are difficult to travel on. On flat lands, roads become muddy when it rains. It will be a big challenge for us to transport relief goods there. As we’ve carried out relief in Laos several times, and we are now continuing to help them.
How do we carry out food distributions? How do we help their medical care so patients don’t need to sleep on the floor? The condition there is so poor. So, there are many things we need to do in Laos. These are works we are doing around the world.
