20191211集愛聚德造福緣Caring for the Earth and All Life
Every day, I’m very concerned about the wildfires that have broken out in different countries and regions. When wildfires break out, they are very hard to contain. There are not many vast forests on Earth, but a lot of wildfires are still burning and are difficult to put out, which is truly worrying. Also, wildfires have been polluting the air, making climate change even worse.
May everyone be mindful and pay attention to the environmental conditions around the world. Not only have many plants withered, but many animals have died due to droughts. How can those affected sustain their lives? This is very worrying to see. May everyone shoulder the responsibility to protect the Earth by cherishing water and other resources. May all of us cherish resources.
This is a virtue and is the wise thing to do. This is how we give with love to care for the Earth. Also, by saving resources, we can give more for the greater good. We shouldn’t think that disasters that have affected people, animals, and plants in faraway places have nothing to do with us. In truth, as we all live on the same land and under the same sky, we are all subject to the impact of disasters.
To mitigate disasters, may everyone sow blessings by giving with love. May all of us cherish our wisdom-life and care for Mother Nature by sharing an understanding of the environmental conditions of the Earth, and more importantly, taking collective action to make a difference. When something is right, we should just do it.
From news reports, we know that most people understand the importance of environmental protection, but it is very hard for people to take action and make a difference. Most countries have been seeking economic development at the cost of resource exploitation which has been damaging the land and polluting the air. Developed countries are unwilling to give up on economic growth. This is even more so far developing countries. And, if conditions permit, undeveloped countries will work to catch up in economic growth.
In all, human activities are increasingly damaging the land and polluting the air. Everyone is aware of this situation, but many people have yet to awaken to how this situation will soon bring about even more devastating natural disasters around the world, which in indeed very worrying.
We see that there are many people suffering from poverty. There are also many disaster survivors who are without water or food. Now, a cup of coffee in Taiwan is over 100 NT dollars (or 3.3 USD.) some people drink coffee just for its taste, and some drink coffee just to keep abreast of the trend. May we all cut down on our expenses so we can help provide food and other resources for more people in need.
Instead of wasting resources, we must be grateful for being blessed with material abundance. By saving resources, we can help more people in need without compromising our quality of life. We’ve been working hard to help transform the lives of those suffering in Africa. We hope they can all access medical care when ill and have houses to keep out winds and rains. For that, we are making plans and interacting with the local governments.
Yet, we cannot carry out our projects now, given the many regulations concerning relief action. Even so, we must find ways to carry out relief. In the same way, to spread the Dharma around the world, we must find ways to share it with everyone. Only when we learn of people in need and find ways to reach them can we bring them aid.
As we are far away from the needy in Africa, the only way to bring them aid quickly is through the support of our local volunteers. We must work to inspire more people there to open their minds and help the needy voluntarily. By doing so, they will also become spiritually rich. Our local volunteers have been helping the needy, which is indeed very touching.
I truly love and cherish our local volunteers in Africa. With bright hearts and minds, they carry out Tzu Chi’s work by giving with love. Although they are poor and live in a crude environment, they bring aid to those who cannot stand on their own feet. We’ve been working hard to carry out relief. The imbalance of Nature’s elements has caused many natural disasters around the world. We must give love and bring relief to disaster survivors who are still in suffering.
Every day, I feel unbearable pain in my heart, concerned about how to help those in need. We must keep striving forward on the path of giving so as to benefit the world and all humanity. Thank you all. May all of us keep serving as living bodhisattvas for the common good of all. To do that, we must go amongst people to serve, which was expounded by the Buddha.
