20210526 熱情動力暖人間Spreading Love and Warmth Far and Wide
We all live under the same sky and on the same land. Due to the imbalance of Nature’s elements, disasters such as floods have been occurring frequently around the world. There are also major earthquakes. A 7.4-maganitude quake struck Qinghai of China recently. With the temperature below zero degrees Celsius, over 2,000 students could only stay in tents and sleep on the ground that was freezing cold.
Learning of that, our Tzu Chi volunteers in Sichuan mobilized quickly, preparing portable beds, thick blankets, and other supplies for those affected. It was truly hard work to send the relief supplies there by truck as some roads to Qinghai had become impassable. What could our volunteers do? They had to take a detour and travel longer distance. This is truly saddening. To relieve people’s suffering, many Tzu Chi volunteers came forth to help. They truly are living bodhisattvas.
I’m also very grateful to some truck drivers. We needed to transport the supplies by truck. Yet, many drivers would not help as some roads became dangerous after the quake. Thankfully, some drivers with whom we’d formed good affinities before were willing to help us carry out the relief work. The drivers did not do so for money. With a loving heart, they worked with our volunteers and helped to save lives and relieve suffering by sending warm clothes and blankets to those affected in a timely manner.
While there are many people in suffering, there are also many touching stories. There are too many to share. Although it was very cold, our volunteers overcame all the difficulties as they were eager to help those affected. The earthquake brought about much misery. Thankfully, our many volunteers mobilized and sent warm clothes and blankets to the affected area quickly. They also sent portable beds there, so the students didn’t need to sleep on the cold ground anymore.
What about the teachers? Apart from taking care of the students, they also continued to give lectures so the students could catch up with their own students. As the teachers needed to take care of and protect their students, they must stay warm too. With our ample supplies, they could also sleep on portable beds and stay warm.
In a time like this, many disasters have occurred in the world, leaving much devastation. The Buddha compared this world to a house on fire. In this big house, many alarming disasters have occurred due to the imbalance of Nature’s elements. There are also many ferocious beasts. Yet, like the children in this burning house parable, many people are still deluded, doing whatever they want and letting their desires run rampant.
In all, we must cultivate our wisdom and look at what’s happening around the world. We shouldn’t only care about what’s happening around us or if we live in peace and comfort. Instead of seeking after self-interest, we must reach out to those in great suffering. There are many people suffering in this world. Thankfully, there are Tzu Chi volunteers who are more than willing to work together to bring aid and care to the needy.
How they give with love has inspired more and more people to do the same. This is how our volunteers inspire love in all. We must also inspire everyone to give with love. I hope that those of us who are safe and well can call on everyone to give with love and donate what they can so we can keep providing relief supplies for the needy.
This world is filled with much suffering. There is also the COVID-19 pandemic, an alarming disaster that has brought suffering to many. Thankfully, our volunteers are helping those affected, passing on love from one person to another. We need to keep spreading love around so as to sow blessings for the world.
We volunteers in Kaohsiung are seizing time to make face shields to send to the police station’s five divisions of traffic, criminal investigation, public order, women and children protection, and juvenile affairs. In addition, we also assist firefighters on the frontline.
We helped a person who fainted on the roadside who, we learned later on, had contracted COVID-19. So, we police officers are at a high risk of infection. I’ve tried on the face shield. It’s very comfortable and protective. I’m very grateful to Tzu Chi.
Interacting with the public can get us infected. Several police officers have tested positive. I’m very grateful to Tzu Chi volunteers for sending us face shields just in time. Only by sowing blessings can we ease the pandemic. I’m grateful to our Tzu Chi members around the world for giving with love.
Only when we express sincere piety and all-embracing love and pool everyone’s love, efforts and relief resources together can we truly relieve people from their suffering. We must stay safe when working to sow blessings. For that, we need to care for one another with love. I’m grateful to our worldwide Tzu Chi members for sowing blessings by serving as living bodhisattvas. Let us pray with sincere piety for the world to be free of disasters.
