20131029 消弭無明 無私奉獻Dispelling Ignorance and Helping Others with Love
In Europe, at this moment, many countries are being battered by a powerful storm. People there are worried and scared. With such strong winds and heavy rains, we can imagine how those affected must feel. So, being safe and well is a blessing and we must cherish it and be grateful.
We also see the wildfires in Australia. At the peak of the fires, more than 100fires were burning. Now, the authorities are investigating the causes of the fires. As it turned out, some children had deliberately set fires in different locations, leading to many wildfires that went out of control.
A military training exercise also ignited a large wildfire caused by explosive devices. That’s how over 100 fires started one after another. Be it military exercise or children setting fires, the wildfires have led to widespread disasters. The situation is very worrying.
These naughty children might think that it was fun to set fires. They might not have meant any harm, but their ignorance has brought about such severe disasters. Isn’t that how people in the world are? It’s very dangerous. So, we must quickly encourage everyone to calm and settle their minds, and then we should think about what we can do to help bring peace and safety to our world.
The only way is to give with love. Only with love can we calm people’s troubled minds and dispel their ignorance so that the light of their wisdom can shine upon the world.
We also see Tzu Chi volunteers in Jordan donating rice to the Young Muslim Women’s Association Center for Special Education as it was in need of aid.
Princess Rahma bint El Hassan of Jordan was also present. It was very heartwarming to see.
In any circumstances, love is always beautiful. A loving heart is the most beautiful.
We also see that Asus, a Taiwan-based computer company, donated 100 second-hand computers to two elementary schools in Lesotho. The children there had only heard of computers, but had never seen them before. So, they were very excited and happy.
See how grateful, pure and genuine these children are. I hope the children in Lesotho can receive the same education as children in other parts of the world.
We also see our volunteers in China conducting the second aid distributions for the flood survivors in Yuyao, Zhejiang. Seeing how our volunteers gave with love, the locals were deeply moved. So, many of them came to help sort and package the aid supplies.
By pitching in to help, they hoped to bring warmth and love to those affected and let them know that there is much warmth in the world and people can care for one another like this.
Yesterday, those who received aid were very grateful and those who were there to help were very moved. People were grateful and moved because they saw how our volunteers served with a sincere heart and handed the supplies to the locals with love and respect. Seeing how the locals beamed warmly, we know that their suffering brought by Typhoon Fitow has been eased.
After the typhoon struck, Tzu Chi volunteers quickly mobilized to bring care to the flood survivors. Not only did Tzu Chi volunteers nearby quickly set to provide hot meals to people, those living in other parts of China also traveled back and forth to Yuyao to help prepare aid supplies. All of the supplies were neatly packed to show our respect and sincere love for people.
Seeing how Tzu Chi volunteers gave of themselves, the local officials were also deeply moved. Such is the power of love. Love connects people together, but to show our love, we need to reach out to others. That’s the way of bodhisattvas, who give with enlightened love. As long as there are people suffering, bodhisattvas will go to their aid and give of themselves with selfless Great Love. This is what oyur volunteers do.
Yesterday, the distributions went smoothly and nearly 5,000 supply packages were given out to the flood survivors. Our relief efforts will continue because more than 70% of the town was affected and many of those affected are impoverished. So, we need to survey what they need. Seeing how our volunteers bring love to the needy truly warms my heart.
We can see such warmth in life all because there are people giving of themselves with selfless Great Love. And when we see major disasters in the world, we must awaken to the lessons they bring. Please be mindful always and care more about what’s happening in the world.
