20140101撰述時代大藏經Celebrating the 16th Anniversary of Da Ai TV
Today is January 1, 2014. As we welcome in the new year, I hope all of us can fully dedicate ourselves to our mission of purifying people’s minds and fostering peace and harmony in society. We vow to keep the Buddha in our hearts and live out his teachings in action.
With a sense of mission, we shall bear witness to our times, record history for Tzu Chi, and spread truth, goodness, and beauty around the world.
Today, we see such wonderful sunshine, which is truly very beautiful. What’s even more beautiful was the performance of our young volunteers. They were truly very orderly. These children will gradually grow up just like how Da Ai TV has aged and is now 16 years old. It’s an age of a youth full of vitality that is as warm as the sun today. I’m very grateful today.
Over the past 16 years, the path we’ve walked is very arduous, but we’ve taken each step firmly and steadily. For Da Ai TV to become what it is today, I am very grateful to our staff for their hard work as well as Tzu Chi volunteers worldwide and our recycling volunteers in Taiwan for their support and dedication.
Thanks to our recycling volunteers’ effort, we’re able to reuse resources and even remake recyclables into useful things to share with people in need. So, our recycling volunteers have enabled us to see how resources can be reused. For that, I’m very grateful.
Da Ai TV was official launched on Jan. 1, 1995. So, today is the 16th anniversary of Da Ai TV. See how it has grown and developed. Over the years, it has produced a wide array of programs and developed different platforms to broadcast them. It also helps to faithfully record many lifer stories of our Tzu Chi volunteers.
For that, I’m very grateful. Thanks to modern technology, we are able share with our viewers how our Tzu Chi volunteers have lived a life of breadth and depth.
All this requires much hard and dedication Da Ai TV is part of our cultural mission. Not only does it take on our cultural mission, it also helps to spread Tzu Chi’s spirit and values embodied in our Four Missions. Our first mission is charity, which is followed by the missions of medicine, education and culture. These are our Four Missions. In doing charity work, we provide timely aid to those in need.
When there are people who are too poor to get by, we quickly go to their aid. When there are people who are ill, we bring them to hospital and give them medicine and care. In times of disasters, we’ll be there to help, too. In recent years, we often see disasters occurring frequently around the world due to erratic climate conditions.
I often say that natural disasters are caused by man. There are many people in the world. And due to people’s desires, we’ve damaged our environment, polluted the air, etc. We’ve created much impurity in the world. So, we need the media to help with diluting this force of impurity.
This is also the responsibility that Da Ai TV has to take on. I hope we can serve as a stream of purity with clear water continuously coming forth like a wellspring.
To do that, we must lay a sound foundation and work together to dig for that wellspring. Now that we’ve found the wellspring, we must secure it and let the water keep coming forth to purify people’s hearts and minds. Many people like to watch dramas.
Our Da Ai Drama is not fictional; it’s based on real-life stories. When it’s real, it shows the goodness and beauty of human nature.
In our drama, we can see how people had once gone astray and led a wayward life. They willingly revealed to us how lost and wayward they used to be and how they later joined Tzu Chi, found their true nature of goodness, reformed themselves, and started to do good to benefit humanity.
All in all, in our effort to purity people’s hearts and minds, what we hope is for everyone to live out the Buddha’s teachings. Then, people won’t go astray and lead a wayward life.
This is how the Buddha’s teachings can really help people and why we need to practice them in life. Wee must also serve as bodhisattvas in the world. The Bodhisattvas that the Buddha had described back in his time was only an ideal. Now, we must humanize them in this world.
So, what the Buddha taught over 2,000 years ago is fro us to embody in our times now, and this is how we can truly live out the Buddha’s teachings in our lives. How can we save the world? We must start with saving people’s hearts and minds.
The Buddha had awakened to the Truth, so we must learn from him. We mustn’t deify the Buddha. His teachings can lead us to the state of a saint and help us transcend above mundane beings. So, we need to put them into practice in life. In producing programs and dramas, we must be truthful.
People affirm Da Ai TV because all that we produce is true and real.
That’s why in Jordon, our Da Ai TV staff were allowed to go to places others are prohibited and how they were able to record so many heartrending stories of Syrian refugees in Jordon. Yesterday, our volunteers from Jordon shared a lot with you.
We’ve received others’ recognition because we only produce what is true, be it our dramas, news, or programs. And all that is true is good and beautiful and will be affirmed by others. This is what we should strive to do.
