20141022 境隨心轉 喜聞佳音Purifying People’s Minds for a Better World

As people in the past said if man doesn’t follow true principles, then Nature won’t take its course either. In other words, Nature’s elements will become imbalanced. That’s what we’re experiencing now. See now extreme and erratic climate conditions have become. They are extreme and erratic because people’s minds are extreme and erratic. When people’s minds deviate from the correct path Nature will also stray far off course.

We also see the Ebola outbreak, which has drawn close attention from people all over the world. Everyone is very worried and frightened. We really need to be on high alert and mustn’t put our guard down. Currently, there’s no treatment for Ebola. The virus is devastating as it’s highly unpredictable. Healthcare workers treating those infected are at greatest risk of contracting it.

But yesterday, I saw on the news that after Nigeria went 42 days with no new cases of infection, the World Health Organization has declared the country free of Ebola. However, since Ebola is still spreading rapidly in three West African countries, surveillance systems have remained on high alert. I hope the outbreak can be contained so it will gradually abate. This is really very worrying. This is the Ebola epidemic.

We also see Dengue fever. Yesterday, I saw on the news that Dengue fever is still spreading in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. So, we still must be vigilant and take precautionary measures. Although it is very difficult to prevent mosquitoes from biting us, the best way is to keep our surroundings dry and clean and do our best to guard against mosquitoes. I hope the outbreak can pass soon and everyone can be safe and well.

If people get bitten by infected mosquitoes, they will have Dengue fever or even the Dengue hemorrhagic fever, which will be life-threatening. So, we really need to be on guard.

We see he photo exhibit on Tzu Chi’s relief effort in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan. In early November of 2013, Super Typhoon Haiyan brought widespread devastation to the Philippines. Right after the disaster, Tzu Chi volunteers immediately mobilized to help. The relief work was truly very arduous. But, no matter how tiring it was, our volunteers held on and continued their work with smiles on their faces.

They stayed with those affected bringing them love and care. Each and every photo at exhibit is very heartwarming. The local officials also think that it is very good to hold such a photo exhibit so people can look back at what had happened to them and be reminded of the power of disasters and the might of Mother Nature.
For this photo exhibit, many locals have come to help. They are really very helpful. The local government has provided us a place to hold the exhibit, and many locals who had received Tzu Chi’s aid before all come to help with whatever they can to make this photo exhibit on the disaster they’d experienced possible. Before the exhibit, they cleaned up the venue so it’d be nice and clean.

Many locals came to help and carefully cleaned every nook and cranny. They even made wood frame for the panels for photo. They’re just like our Tzu Chi volunteers. Now that the photo exhibit has been set up, next to each photo, the person in that photo will stand there to share his or her own story with everyone. They share with people how they’d been affected and how Tzu Chi volunteers went to them, embracing them in their arms to comfort them and give them support.

Every person in the photos displayed is there to share their story with everyone in person. They also share with people how Tzu Chi volunteers reached out to them right after the disaster and how these photos have captured the touching images of everyone working and in hand to rebuild their homes. Those photos have borne witness to the love of humanity.

I also heard news that made us very happy Our Da Ai TV program, “Children of Our Planet,” has won an award in Japan. We received the award in Japan last night. We were not just nominated but have really won the award of Japan Prize 2014. This is truly not an easy feat. “Children of Our Planet” is indeed a wholesome and inspiring program. From the program, children can really learn a lot.

The program teaches children life’s principles through true touching stories. The award-winning episode tells the story of a boy who suffers from cerebral palsy. He has to endure much pain when receiving physical therapy, but he is very brave and always faces his suffering with a sense of humor. He is truly very remarkable. Our TV programs are true and uplifting. Even though it is just a children’s program, we do our best to share real-life stories with children to inspire goodness in them. Winning this award in Japan is really not easy.

I hope we can be mindful in producing more wholesome and truthful programs like this in order to really fulfill our responsibility of purifying people’s minds.
