20170123立願行經共福業 Making Vows and Living Out Sutras to Create Blessings for All

Seeing disasters happen around the world makes my heart very heavy. Such natural disasters are the result of people’s collective negative karma. Our priority is to purify people’s minds, otherwise humans will continue to create collective negative karma, which leads to severe disasters.

It’s truly heartrending to see this happen. To eliminate disasters, we must eliminate collective negative karma. We can do this only if people around the world sincerely pray for and give blessings to the disaster affectees.

Wherever there are Tzu Chi volunteers, there will be a lot of heartwarming stories. In Namibia, Africa, droughts have caused shortage of food. Fortunately there are Tzu Chi volunteers in Africa, who traveled a long distance to go there and provide aid.

To help people in Namibia, the volunteers from South Africa had to travel a long distance, but they still went there to provide aid. That’s why I always hope that we can sow seeds of love everywhere around the world. Only by recruiting more volunteers will we have the power to help people.

In Taiwan, we can see heartwarming interactions everywhere. We see TIMA doctors and volunteers in Changhua cared for and helped the homeless and the poor.

Volunteers organized winter aid distributions as well as reunion meals for care recipients to celebrate the Chinese New Year. It is heart-warming to see this.

Our volunteers gave them supplies and organized reunion meals so they could have the opportunity to enjoy the Chinese New Year and receive medical care at the free clinic.

This is what we have done in Taiwan. These events were organized because there are many people in Taiwan giving their power of love. That’s why we need to recruit more volunteers.

Such reunion meals were held in many locations, as well as free clinics and aid distributions. These events were held everywhere in Taiwan by our volunteers.

In other places, volunteers conducted home visits to care for elderly care recipients. This shows us that there are many people with the power of love in Taiwan’s society.

The Year-End Blessing Ceremonies were also very heart-warming. Police officers and many others presented the story of Ven. Jian Zhen’s journey to Japan. On stage, they showed great strength and the were all in sync.

To present this story, they rehearsed many times. Two Dharma masters were also on stage presenting the Dharma through their movements. The resolve of Ven. Jian Zhen to travel east to Japan shows the spirit of spiritual cultivators.

Dharma masters Ru Xiao and Jie Xin joined Tzu Chi volunteers on stage and mindfully took part in the presentation. It is very moving. The Year-End Blessing Ceremonies were so heart-warming.

This year, a total of more than 30,000 people around Taiwan participated in the sutra adaptation presentations on stage and in the audience. They all memorized their lines well and were all in sync.

I also saw a group of elderly volunteers who were truly adorable. Those who went on stage were all over 80 years old. Onstage, they all chanted, “We do recycling work in the mountains.”

We do recycling work in the mountains, by the sea, and in communities. And we’re in our eighties! We wish that we can live to be 120 years old and won’t need walking canes and are still able to serve.

With unity and love, we vow to carry out Tzu Chi’s mission of education and create a society of hope, beauty and goodness. We vow to volunteer with Tzu Chi life after life.

They are truly adorable. These were volunteers in Yunlin. At the Sanchong Jing Si Hall, I also saw a large group of elderly volunteers in the audience who participated in the sutra adaptation presentation without missing any movement and were in perfect sync.

In the end, some of them slowly walked down the stairs. They came down one after another, with recyclables in their hands and presented them to me.

They had collected the recyclables and turned them into works of art. They collected dirty plastics, sorted them well, and made them very clean. They said that the recyclables can be made into something useful, like the eco-blanket, to help those in need.

It is indeed very touching. The elderly in today’s society should be valued as treasures. It is very important for us to help elderly people maintain their physical and mental health. What they need is dignity and respect.
They’re still giving of themselves at this age, how can we not respect them? I couldn’t help but stand up to talk to them and give them a pat. This is truly very touching.

Even though they are all around 80 or 90 years old, they are still serving within their capacity. There are many elderly volunteers like this in Taiwan, and it is truly touching to see them giving of themselves with love. This is the beauty of Taiwan.

I hope that people can spread the seeds of love to inspire more living bodhisattvas in this world to love and help our fellow human beings and protect the Earth that we live on.

There are truly many touching things. In Hualien, the day before yesterday was the last day of our sutra adaption presentations. Management of Tzu Chi’s four missions led their staff to present the great vows of the Medicine Buddha.

It was truly touching. They put a lot of time into rehearsing the presentations, so they were all in sync. The presentation in the afternoon by Tzu Chi volunteers in Hualien was also very orderly.

Thus, Tzu Chi volunteers and staff in Hualien showed Dharma in their heart. Let us create blessings (by giving love in everything we do, and) nurture wisdom by practicing the Dharma to realize life’s truth. May everyone diligently cultivate blessings and wisdom. Thank you.
