20170203人間菩提:救拔苦難運悲智Relieving People’s Suffering with Compassion and Wisdom

It is very touching to see that Tzu Chi volunteers help people in Jordan from the end of 2016 until now. At the end of last year, our TIMA medical team consisting of Supt. Chien, Dr. Chen and Dr. Hsia from the Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital, as well as other TIMA members went to Jordan to conduct free clinics.

After the clinics were held for several days, the doctors selected some patients who were in urgent need of an operation or medical treatment. Some of these were children who needed emergency surgery but have yet to receive it.

After Tzu Chi volunteers came back to Taiwan, local volunteers in Jordan continued to help people there. All in all, when it comes to alleviating people from suffering, Tzu Chi volunteers waste no time.

We see a girl whose eyes became swollen after she had received an eye operation but didn’t have the stitches removed as her family couldn’t afford it. Tzu Chi volunteers discovered her case and took her to Amman for treatment.

In Amman, an eye doctor, who also came from Syria, took on her case on behalf of Tzu Chi. She helped remove the stitches and treated her eyes.

Our volunteers also discovered a case of a child with kidney disease and arranged for him to receive treatment.
“It’s been three years since Mohammed was diagnosed with kidney disease. I often took him to hospitals for help but nobody was willing to help us until Mr. Chien Chiou-hwa came to visit us. I am really grateful. Thank you, Mr. Chen.”

“I’m only our Master’s hand and eye and leg. But we’d like to thank Muhammad to give us a chance to help him here.”
“Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will pray for blessings for Tzu Chi volunteers and Master Cheng Yen in accordance with our religion.”

This eight year-old boy encountered war since his birth. To make it worse, the refugees live in poor condition, thus they are truly in suffering. Some of them also suffer from illnesses. Thus, we should give more care and aid for those who are in suffering.

There is also a Bedouin old lady. She is a Tzu Chi long-term care recipient. Because the government plans to build a highway in the area where she used to live, the residents there had to leave. All of a sudden, Tzu Chi volunteers lost contact with her.

After a long period of searching, volunteers finally found her again. This old lady, who requires kidney dialysis, was very excited to see Tzu Chi volunteers. Finally, help has arrived. Tzu Chi volunteers brought her food so that she can have more nutrition.

Because of their love, Tzu Chi volunteers did not want to lose any care recipient. Thus, we in Taiwan must continuously urge people to give support to Tzu Chi volunteers in Jordan in order to enable them to help more people in suffering. We need everyone to continue and give with the power of love.

Take the example of volunteers in the Philippines. At the end of 2016, typhoon Nock-ten struck the Philippines. The typhoon made landfall on Christmas Day. It caused severe devastation to the island province of Catanduanes. The environment there is poor, and the houses there are simply built.

Tzu Chi volunteers in Manila waited for the transportation to be resumed. They then took a flight and flew several hours to reach the island. They brought along cash to provide aid relief to the affectees, hoping to solve their problems immediately.

Volunteers asked the affectees what they needed to rebuild their homes, the affectees were very content and asked for little. They said that the life there was a quite simple, and that they used bamboo and grass as building materials. They did not ask for anything except for some metal sheets. I was truly touched by this.

They did not take advantage to ask for more things just because they were receiving aid from outside after the disaster. They did not need much and only asked for some metal sheets. Seeing this, Tzu Chi volunteers were very touched.

The affectees used the cash aid to buy food and supplies to meet their basic needs. Volunteers in the Philippines also mentioned that they wanted to go back there after Chinese New Year to distribute rice and other supplies to the disaster affectees. These volunteers took the initiative to give with the power of love. These kind-hearted residents who are grateful and content make us want to help them even more.

We also see people interacting with one another with love. In the U.S., after the Chinese New Year, Tzu Chi volunteers in several states invited people both Chinese and non-Chinese to take part in Chinese New Year gatherings and wish one another a happy new year. I am very touched.

In Beijing, China, Tzu Chi volunteers went to senior homes to pay their respect to the elderly and bring them happiness. This is how they pass on the power of love.

In Taipei, Taiwan, many recycling stations have resumed work. Recycling volunteers held a joyous Chinese New Year gathering. They used passion fruit shells as containers for flower arrangements, and shared heartwarming experiences.

These joyous Chinese New Year gatherings were held at recycling stations in Taishan District and Quchi of Xindian District. The recycling volunteers there showed their gratitude and praise one another. These are all very touching.
