20170219修福持慧法傳承Create Blessing and Nurture Wisdom to Pass on the Dharma

We see that Tzu Chi started out by helping the poor and inspiring the rich to give with love. Now, we are guiding the poor to give. Not only can the rich give to help people in hardship those in hardship can also give to help others who suffer more..

When we go on relief missions overseas, we share Dharma with the disaster affecters.  We tell them about Tzu Chi and how it began with the coin bank program. By pooling together everyone’s small donation, we can help people in need.

As Tzu Chi enters its 52nd year, our focus is “Create Blessings: Every Grain of Rice Delivers Eternal Love” “Nurture Wisdom: Each Tiny Particle Holds Life’s Truth.”

Take the poor farmers in Myanmar for example. They save a handful of rice everyday to make it a jar of rice. Then, the jars of rice are collected from many people forming into several sacks. These sacks of rice can save many families. This is how we pool together small contributions to make a great difference.

This is the power of love. So we hope everyone can give with the spirit of love. Do not underestimate the power of small good deeds when pooled together. No matter how time changes, in the past, poor people depend on food to survive. It’s the same now and will be in the future.

In other words, charitable work is to provide food and supplies to those in need so they can live a better life. In addition to creating blessings, we need to nurture our wisdom. This requires listening to Dharma talks. We have to understand life’s truth which is invisible and intangible to us.

So, I use “tiny particle” as a metaphor for life’s truth. For example this tiny particle can be a small see. When we see a large tree with a stout trunk, it originates from seed.  But if we split the seed in half, we won’t find a tree inside. The principle of life that allows the tree to grow is invisible in the seed.

The Dharma is like this. There’s life’s truth in everything. Dharma teachings are subtle and fine, yet they are endless. This is why the Dharma is very profound and subtle. That’s why “Each tiny Particle Holds Life’s Truth.

The couplet for this year is to create blessings and never underestimate small good deeds, and to nurture wisdom by listening to the Dharma talks, accumulating our wisdom, and cultivating diligently. We should diligently follow the Jing Si Dharma lineage to pass down the essence of our Dharma lineage.

By making great vows, we walk the Tzu Chi Path, and help living beings with both infinite compassion and wisdom. I hope Tzu Chi volunteers can pass down our Dharma lineage, especially the essence of the Dharma. To truly grow in wisdom-life, we need the essence of the Dharma.

Tzu Chi volunteers must cultivate a heart of sincerity, uprightness, faith, and honesty, and practice the spirit of loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. To realize the Four Great Vows, we must have sincerity, uprightness, faith, and honestly.

Without sincerity in our heart, how can we help all living beings? So, we have to give of ourselves with sincerity. We see Tzu Chi volunteers are always very sincere in helping care recipients. With the power of love, Tzu Chi volunteers embrace and support them with love.

No matter what circumstances they are in, Tzu Chi volunteers are always sincere in supporting them with love. We should also be upright. To eliminate afflictions, we need to have right view, right belief, right mindset, right thinking, etc.

We need to keep the teachings of Noble Eightfold Path in our mind. If we can do this, we will not make mistakes and be afflicted. We have to cultivate an upright mind.

We also need to have faith. Faith is the mother of all meritorious virtues. The Dharma is very profound and subtle, so we need to have deep faith in order to take in the Dharma and continue learning with great patience.

We also need to be steady and solid in our cultivation. Only by cultivating ourselves steadfastly can we truly attain Buddhahood.   Sincerity, uprightness, faith, and honesty as what Tzu Chi volunteers must have. We need to nurture compassion so we can give living-kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity.

Therefore, we must have great loving-kindness without regrets, to develop infinite Great Love, have great compassion without complaints to make great vows, have great joy without worries to gain infinite joy, and give of ourselves unconditionally to develop infinite gratefulness.

For the happiness of people around the world, we are willing to give of ourselves without any regret. I hope that everyone can carry out Tzu Chi’s missions with one pure heart. We all have a same goal, which is to walk on the path of awakening, the Bodhi Path. Bodhi means to be awakening.

We encourage and inspire each other to be awakened, that’s why we say “a forest of Bodhi trees grow from the same root of wisdom.” Volunteers also need to work together in unity to cultivate a field of blessings. The world is a great field of blessings.

We need to form good affinities with others and cultivate the field of blessings. Therefore, we need to work in unity and plant our root of wisdom deeply into the Bodhisattva Path. These fundamental concepts are what Tzu Chi volunteers should keep in mind, and be mindful in learning and practicing them.

We vow to mindfully safeguard our own Tzu Chi spirit, and practice vegetarianism to carefully protect all living beings. Because we love Master and we love Tzu Chi, we will pass on our Tzu Chi Dharma lineage. We will accomplish this. We will accomplish this. We will accomplish this.

Very good. I am touched. You said you love Tzu Chi and me, but most importantly, you should love all living beings. There are many people suffering in the world. We aspire to develop enlightened love and walk the Bodhisattva Path together. We have to walk every step steadfastly.

The birthplace of Tzu Chi is Hualien, Taiwan. Volunteers in Hualien should cherish this affinity. Tzu Cho has reached out and helps people in five continents. Volunteers must make great vows to love whom I love, and do what I want to do, take the Tzu Chi’s Dharma to heart, and spread the Dharma.

Do you understand? Yes. I am very grateful for Tzu Chi volunteers’ power of love. May you walk on the Bodhisattva Path unwaveringly and cultivate both blessings and wisdom. Thank you.
