We see how the world is filled with much suffering. China is being affected by floods. The rain there has been ongoing for more than half a month in some areas and even a month in others. Thanks to the advancement of technology, we’ve received news about the floods promptly.
Although the affected areas are far away from us, everyone can be updated on the current situation. We see how the climate has changed. The duration and intensity of the rainfall are unusual, and it is still raining heavily. This is truly horrifying.
One of those affected told our Tzu Chi volunteers how horribly she’d suffered. I’ve lost everything to the flood, so I don’t want to live anymore. I’m so sad. Thank you so much for your care.
We must not be disheartened by difficulties. We can overcome them as long as we have firm faith. We Tzu Chi volunteers in Chongqing will bring continued aid to those affected. In tears, she shared her deep sadness with our volunteers as if they were her family members.
In the Philippines, the CODID-19 pandemic has been ongoing for several months. People around the world have been alarmed by this contagious disease. Many business have been shut down, and many people have been jobless, so they are unable to sustain their lives.
In the Philippines, there is a type of bus known as jeepney. It can accommodate quite a few passengers. However, due to the pandemic, many drivers lost their livelihood.
The government required us to fit our jeepneys with separation screens before we can resume our job. Otherwise, we will be fined.
We had no income for the past four months, so we cannot afford to install separation screens. We’d distributed rice to them during the lockdown, but it could only last for a few weeks. If we help them get back on their feet, then they can provide for their family.
Our volunteers gave out materials to these drivers so they can install separation screens on their jeepneys, ensuring passengers’ safety. Our volunteers are truly wise and compassionate. They continue to give out food supplies, such as rice, oil, salt and sugar, to the needy and have helped tens of thousands of families so far.
They’ve also helped those out of work due to COVID-19 get back on their feet. With the materials they provided, the jeepney drivers install separation screens to protect themselves and passengers. This is how our volunteers give with love to safeguard everyone’s health.
They truly have my admiration. The pandemic has been going on for a long time without any sign of slowing down. Despite that, for many months, our volunteers have been helping the needy with compassion and wisdom. This is truly not an east feat. Such is love. Our volunteers give with love to relieve people’s suffering. There are now many disasters in the world.
In a time like this, our volunteers uphold correct views and give with love so as to bring aid to the many people in need. I’m very touched. As natural disasters and the pandemic have brought suffering to many, we need to seize every opportunity to serve and give all we can to help.
Our volunteers in the Philippines give with great loving-kindness, compassion, joy, equanimity, and wisdom to help thee needy. They accomplish good things by serving with enlightened love and living out life’s true principles. They all understand the teachings of the Buddha, the Awakened One of the Cosmos, and live them out to relieve people’s suffering. When we seize each opportunity to help the needy, we are serving with great wisdom.
To cultivate great wisdom, we must learn the Buddha’s teachings. Now, we are more capable of helping the needy and there are many opportunities for us to give of ourselves. So, we must seize time to listen to the Dharma and live it out to benefit others. This is the true value of learning the Dharma.
