20220511愛無藩籬穩人心Love: The Beauty of Humanity

I heard them say that they’d sing the song “One Family” in Ukrainian as a surprise for us. I’m deeply moved. They sang the song very well and showed their love through their performance.

The song has left a deep impression on me as it is about love, family, and support. With love, peace can be brought to Earth. This is hard to imagine. We’ve talked much about love recently. Great love spreads beyond borders and religion and pools everyone’s goodness together.

I’m surprised at these people’s goodness and compassion. I’m touched by their good hearts. They’re doing very important things. They’ve taught us how to love and shared how they’ve helped others with joy and sincerity.

We see how they respected one another despite their different religious beliefs. Such is love, and with love comes harmony. Our Tzu Chi volunteers bring forth their innate love and work together to relieve people from their suffering. They also practice propriety while giving with love. Nothing is more beautiful than people’s innate love.

Our volunteers from different countries have gathered together to bring love to refugees from Ukraine. Although our volunteers and the refugees speak different languages, our volunteers embrace them lovingly with open arms in order to comfort their hearts and let them know that they are loved and not alone.

We see how, despite a language barrier, the refugees mindfully give back to Tzu Chi and thank Tzu Chi for bringing them care and aid. They sang the song “One Family” to show that they would love and care for one another like a family. Through the song, they also expressed their innate love and their wish for peace.

With love, every country will be peaceful and free of war. When a country is free of war, people there can cultivate a loving heart. I’ve showed them that “heart” is signed like this, meaning each of us coming together and sharing one heart. This is how “heart” is signed, and if I sign “heart” upside down here, as the Chinese character of “unity” has a part meaning “mouth,” it symbolizes our hearts are being united.

Despite different nationalities and languages, through hand signs, they understand that they are just like a family. They were all nice to one another and were filled with joy. The music in the concert was also very beautiful. We must all seek truth with one heart.

Christian and Catholicism guide people to love others unconditionally and Islam guides people to love one another truly. What about Buddhism? It guides us to treat people around the world equally with loving-kindness and compassion even if they are not related to us. We as Buddhists can’t bear to see people suffer, whatever their religion. We must cultivate great compassion and feel others’ suffering as our very own.

We must also cultivate great loving-kindness. With great loving-kindness, whenever we meet people we do not know, we will always hope that after we interact and talk with them, they will become at ease and filled with joy. We will treat them like our own family so they can be at ease and peace. In all, with great loving-kindness, we can bring peace to people’s minds, and with great compassion, we can lift people out of their suffering. This is how we live out the Dharma.

We’ve witnessed love amid people’s suffering. Those who are safe and well give with love and find ways to provide aid for refugees. Tzu Chi has also been doing so. Our volunteers have reached out and handed them relief supplies personally. Such is the power of love. To bring aid to those we can’t reach out to, we’ve worked with other humanitarian groups.

We give our support by providing aid and supplies. As they can directly reach out to those in need, we provide supplies so they can bring them to the refugees. This is how we should give of ourselves and walk on the right path of life. We must pool everyone’s love together by calling on all to give what they can.

We do so not for the sake of money, but to inspire love in all. We should let everyone understand why we all need to donate and give. We must let them know that there’s so much suffering around the world as many have strayed from the path of love. So, we must let everyone know how the world is filled with much suffering and where there are people in need so as to inspire them to help those in need, see the path of love and be reminded to live out their value in life by giving of themselves.

They will remember that they’ve followed Tzu Chi’s coin bank practice and that when Tzu Chi raised funds for a country, they also donated a banknote or a coin. By looking at how we’ve given of ourselves even if only a little bit, we will remember how we’ve contributed to a great cause. If we’ve made great vows and lived them out, we will remember how we’ve brought much value to our lives.

When we think of what we’ve carried out, we will be at ease and filled with joy. The Dharma teaches us that as long as we form good affinities with all, one day when our time comes, we will feel light and at ease with no regrets of owing anyone anything. This is very important.
